Oil Spill Response Training Course - August 24-28 2015 - Inuvik, NT

The Joint Secretariat hosted a five-day Oil Spill Response training course during the week of August 23, 2015 in Inuvik NT. The training gave participants knowledge of techniques in cleaning up small spills in the region.

The course was developed through the Beaufort Regional Environmental Assessment (BREA) under the leadership of the Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Working Group.

Over the five-day course, the participants took part in two field sessions and classroom learning. Information relating to all relevant scenarios, including, spill sources, causes, and properties, along with response strategies, equipment, and application methods were addressed in the training.

BREA Results Forum 2015: Taking Stock and Looking to the Future

The BREA Results Forum 2015 was held in Inuvik from February 24th to 26th, 2015. Over 85 participants representing Inuvialuit communities and organizations, regulators, governments, industry, and academia attended the Forum to present and discuss the key results and findings from the four-year BREA research program.

BREA Results Forum 2013: First Two Years of Progress

The BREA Results Forum 2013 was held in Inuvik from February 19th to 21st, 2013. Approximately 75 participants representing Inuvialuit communities and organizations, co-management bodies, the federal and territorial governments, industry, academia and consultants attended the Forum to hear about the first two years of progress and discuss the results to date.

BREA Announcement of Research Projects

On February 27, 2012 the Governement of Canada, Inuvialuit Game Council, and Inuvialuit Regional Corporation jointly announced the funding of 17 BREA research projects. View the News Release.

 

BREA in Inuvik, 5 December 2011

BREA Day will be held in Inuvik on December 5, 2011. BREA researchers will join representatives of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development to provide an update on BREA research and activities since the community meetings in June.

 

BREA in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, June 2011

BREA will be visiting all six communities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region between June 20 and June 30 to present on BREA plans and gather input from communities. All are welcome to attend. The BREA team will include members of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Inuvialuit Game Council, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, and the Joint Secretariat.

 

BREA Funding Announcement

On August 20, 2010 Senator Daniel Lang (Yukon), on behalf of the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC), announced funding for the Beaufort Regional Environmental Assessment. View the Press Release or the Backgrounder on the AANDC website.
