The Beaufort Environmental Monitoring Program (BEMP) was established as a research and planning ancillary to Northern Oil and Gas Action Plan. The aim of the BEMP was to advance government preparedness for oil and gas development. The program assessed the potential environmental effects of oil and gas development in the Beaufort Sea.
