The Integrated Ocean Management Plan for the Beaufort Sea was developed in 2009 to formalize a common vision for the Beaufort Sea Large Ocean Management Area. The plan builds on the knowledge of initiatives such as the Beaufort Sea Strategic Regional Plan of Action (BSStRPA) and Inuvialuit Community Conservation Plans. It incorporates social, cultural economic and ecosystem values expressed by communities, and tackles issues related to onshore and offshore petroleum exploration. It represents an inclusive method of managing ocean resources and spaces, intended to facilitate effective ocean management.
